Ballet
A timeless tradition, ballet is the foundation for all types of dance. Using repetitious exercises ballet focuses on combing strength with grace. Ballet builds strong core muscles (abdominals, back, and legs) while teaching artistry. Students will do barre work, center exercises, and movements across the floor. It is strongly recommended to take ballet if you are interested in other techniques.

Pointe
A physically challenging technique based on ballet principles. Utilizing special shoes a dancer will execute ballet movements that include balancing the entire body weight of the dancer on the tips of their toes. Pointe classes follow the same structure of a ballet class. Pointe classes require ballet classes and instructor approval. Proper shoes and attire required.

Tap
A rhythmic style of dance that focuses on musicality and movement. Tap dance works the connection of the mind and body through complex footwork. Dancers will do barre work, center exercises, and across the floor movements with and without music. Proper shoes and attire required.

Jazz
A dance style that is based on ballet technique, but adds individual expression and movement using popular music. Dancers will gain strength and flexibility through stretching, center technique exercises and across the floor movements. Proper shoes and attire required.

Contemporary
An interpretive style that focuses on unconventional movements. Contemporary is often a fusion of ballet, jazz, and modern technique, focusing on oppositional movement, alignment, and emotion. It is a newer and more expressive art form. Knowledge of ballet and jazz technique is strongly suggested. Proper shoes and attire required.

Urban
Urban dance (more commonly known as “street” dance or “hip-hop” dance) is a genre of movement on the cutting edge of athleticism, rhythm and creativity. Urban dance encompasses many street styles, the most common styles being; break-dancing (“bboying” or “bgirling”), popping, locking (funk), housing, and waacking. Students will be taught the fundamental principals and techniques of urban dance styles through drills, choreography, and improvisation (freestyle). Proper shoes and attire required.
